Healing With Art: Jodi’s Post-Stroke Journey

After a life-altering stroke, Jodi turned to creativity as a way to heal and rediscover herself. As she learned to adapt to new challenges, art became more than a hobby, it became a source of strength, expression, and connection. Joining the Art Group gave her the space to grow, create, and move forward.

“I joined the Art Group as I was looking for ways to be creative after my stroke. I have had to learn new skills, including becoming left-handed and I am always looking to try new things.”

For Jodi, art is a way to keep moving forward. Her open mindset and willingness to try new techniques have helped her grow with each piece she creates. It’s a process of exploring, adapting, and finding possibility in every brushstroke.

A Soul Full of Colour

Colour is central to Jodi’s work. It’s where she finds joy, comfort, and strength. Her art is inspired by dream-like images and rich, layered palettes that speak directly to her soul.

“Colour brings me joy and happiness—creating in colour is therapy for my soul.”

Watercolour has become Jodi's preferred medium, offering the flexibility to play, explore, and adapt. She appreciates its forgiving nature, where mistakes can turn into something unexpected and beautiful. It's a reflection of her own journey, turning challenges into art.

“My favourite medium is watercolour. I love the colours and the layers give you the flexibility to make mistakes and turn them into something else.”

Jodi’s standout exhibition piece, Field of Dreams, captures her vibrant approach to life and creativity. The bold colour choices and contrasting background create a lively, dreamlike composition that immediately draws the viewer in.

“I love the colour combinations, how the painting pops with the background colours.”
